Start Your Day with Affirmations

Not long ago I shared my morning routine with y’all. Well, I’ve added something to that routine and I hope you add it to yours as well. Affirmations. What are affirmations? They’re positive statements that describe in detail a desired situation, goal or result, and are repeated until they get impressed on the subconscious mind. This process, causes the subconscious mind to to strive and to work on your behalf, to make the positive statements come true.

Now that’s not to say you just sit back & let your subconscious mind make it come true, no, my friend, it doesn’t work that way…..you must be working towards making a reality, too, by setting goals. Go here to learn about setting goals.

If this is new to you, you may be thinking it’s kinda “woo-woo”, or “out there” but it’s been a practice for hundreds of years. Many successful and famous people not only use the power of affirmations but share it with their fans and audiences. Stars such as, Lady Gaga, Will Smith, Oprah, just to name a few, believe in this powerful practice. Motivational speakers such as, Tony Robbins, Les Brown and the late Zig Ziglar use affirmations to find success in their own lives.

Think about it…you are surrounded by negativity. It’s in your face everywhere you go. Many people start and end the day watching the news….. and ya can’t get much more negative than the news. The more you let negativity take over your mind, the more negativity you will have in your life. Your mind, not your brain (notice the difference), is like fertile soil. It doesn’t care what you plant in it. Whatever you plant will grow whether it’s positive or negative.

Take control of your thoughts…don’t let outward influences create your life, YOU create your life! Start and end each day with affirmations and watch your life change.

So here’s my morning routine:

  • 5:22-5:45 Alarm
  • 5:45-6:30 Workout

Now move to a quiet place with no distractions (turn off the television / phone) and be sure to choose a time of day when you won’t be interrupted by the children, pets, visitors, etc. I assure you this is the MOST important 40-50 minutes of your day.

  • 6:30-6:40 Prayer
  • 6:40-6:50 Brain Dump (this can take longer depending on how many ideas come)
  • 6:50-7:00 Affirmations
  • 7:00-7:10 Visualization

After my affirmations, I take 10 minutes to visualize what my life looks like once my affirmations become my reality. Sit upright comfortably, (don’t lie down or you might fall asleep as I’ve done before), close your eyes and don’t move. Take a few deep breaths to settle yourself. As you visualize yourself, for instance, paying cash for your dream car then driving away in it, how does that feel? Attaching joyful and positive feelings to your visualization is important. How does the steering wheel feel in your hands? What does the car sound like? etc.

I use the Google Keep app on my iPhone to keep my affirmations at my fingertips so I can read them at any time of the day. When writing your affirmations, be specific, (use pictures whenever possible). Don’t write, “I have a successful business”, instead, write what that looks like for you…..for instance, “My business earns $100,000 profit annually”. Write about every aspect of your life; your job/business, your relationships, your home, your car, your confidence, your body image, etc. Most importantly write down what you are grateful for. Being grateful for what you have now will bring more of it to you.

Always write your affirmations in the present tense as if you’ve already received it. For example, instead of writing, “I will be a top earner in _______”, write, “I am a top earner in _______”.

You can find affirmation videos on YouTube by doing a search. These are very basic so they work for anyone but they can be nice to listen to if you are having some negative thoughts and want to get yourself back into a positive attitude.

I’m in the process of creating my own personal affirmation video so I can visualize the reality I WANT TO CREATE. I will watch the video every morning and just before going to bed. If you would be interested in me creating your personal affirmation video, contact me at teresakogut3@gmail.com

NOTE: as with anything on the internet, there are people that discredit affirmations. It’s kind of like hearing on the news “eggs are good for you” and the next day you hear “eggs are bad for you”…..it’s confusing, right? Sometimes we don’t know who to believe. I can tell you this….if affirmations don’t help, then why do so many highly successful people practice this ritual, why have people been practicing this ritual for hundreds of years AND why do famous personal development speakers/authors encourage us to use affirmations as a daily ritual?

Believe what you want, but how can positive words and grateful thoughts be hurtful?

I hope you found value in this article and remember to contact me if you want me to create your PERSONAL affirmation video.

Blessings to you,

Teresa
