Jose Royo: Master Spanish Painter
When I was in college (many moons ago) I took an art history class and of all the old masters, I gravitated towards Monet. I collected books about him and his amazingly beautiful art. I fell in love with impressionism. This was back before the internet, so collecting books was the only way I could delve into his life and work.
Several years later, I discovered Jose Royo. I am not exactly sure how I found him, but I am thankful I did. I believe it was in an art magazine that had a full page advertisement for his gallery show. I was hooked the first time I saw his work. He is a modern day Monet. Here again, I collected everything and anything I could about Royo (still before the internet). He was mysterious. I could never find an interview or any details about his life. So I simply had to be happy admiring his art.
Well, life gets busy and since those days, we’ve raised three children and built three businesses so Royo was tucked away somewhere in my studio.
Yesterday (September 9, 2014) I was searching for an artist to feature here at GDCIC and Royo popped in my head . I decided to see what I could find out about him now that I have the internet at my fingertips.
I nearly leaped out of the chair when I found a video of Royo at work in his studio and working with the models for his paintings. Just seeing a glimpse into his life was so overwhelming for me! I just knew I had to share his art and life with you all as well. I hope you enjoy his amazing work as much as I do!
Oh my! I just found an even more amazing video of Royo. It’s an interview and so worth watching. I am so inspired by his work. I would love to walk through that studio! It may take me three days because I would have to take time absorbing all that I could from each masterpiece.
