The Creative Process

The creative process can be a bit like a roller coaster….

I was inspired by something I saw on Pinterest and thought it made a great topic for Gather Dream Create. (especially for those of you who are taking my Angelic Strokes Angel Painting Tutorial)

Before starting a painting, it’s so exciting. The process of creating is something an artist always looks forward to. Sometimes I can go through a painting and it flows off the end of my brush and other times I struggle and struggle….even to the point of ripping up the paper and starting over.

The key is to either keep going or start over. Don’t give up completely. Depending on the medium in which I am creating with will determine whether I keep going or start over….for example, if my watercolors get too “muddy” then I will start over but with acrylics I can cover up what
I’ve already painted time and time again until I am satisfied with how it looks.

Working through the creative process has it’s ups and downs kind of like a roller coaster. I start out excited…then maybe I’m not sure where the painting is going, then I plum don’t like it, then I doubt my abilities as an artist, then I start to like it again and when it’s done, I love it!

Experiencing this “roller coaster” is good for you and your art. It means you’re stretching yourself, you’re trying new things, you’re open to change and most of the time you’re learning something new! So make sure you don’t get too comfortable with your art. Take a roller coaster ride once in a while!

Have you ever experienced this emotional roller coaster while creating art, music or writing a book? If so, tell us about it. If not, why? Are you not reaching outside your comfort zone? We’d love to hear from you.

Blessings,

Teresa
