Blessings for 2015

by tkogut on January 7, 2015

I have mixed feelings about the new year. I am usually excited about the challenges and changes a new year brings, however, this year I’ll be starting it without my Dad. We lost an extraordinary man, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend on December 18, 2014. Dad struggled all year with cancer that had came back with a vengeance from his previous battle 20 years ago. Dad was a quiet, gentle man full of wisdom and good stories. He was born at home in Bernic Missouri October 26, 1937. After four years in the service he went back home only to realize he needed to leave Missouri in order to make a living for himself. He got a job at General Motors in Flint Michigan where he later met and married my Mom. Dad worked at the AC Spark Plant as a machine repairman until he retired.

Dad was a fun-loving person, always teasing the grandkids. Of course, he didn’t get away with his “tall tales” for long because the twitch of his lip would always give him away. Dad offered great advice for his family. The particular advice that stuck with me is this: “You always have time to do the things you REALLY want to do”. Simple, but oh so true. That piece of advice alone has helped guide me through life making choices to reflect what I really want out of life.

Mom and Dad celebrated 50 years of marriage this past July 10th. Mom is devastated. She lost her soul mate. Dad set the standard by which I measure all men and because of that, I am married to a wonderful man.

Thank you, Dad.

Mom & Dad, February 2013

I miss him dearly but he no longer suffers. I also know I will see him again someday in paradise. Until then, you will live in my heart and I will cherish the memories, Dad. Love you.
