Two Top Tips for ANY Business to be Successful

There are many many tips for entrepreneurs, but there are two that are soooo simple yet very hard for many. Any guesses?

  1. Actionable, consistent WORK
  2. TIME, as in patience.

Whether you’re an artist, a retail entrepreneur, in a multi-level marketing business…whatever it may be, WORK & TIME are what’s going to make or break your business.

WORK

There are very few, if any, overnight successes in business. Someone may appear that they are an overnight success when in fact they’ve worked for years “behind the scenes” in their basement or garage diligently working, researching and building their business before anyone ever heard of them.

There is an estimated 7.4 billion people in the world. To say that there are few, if any, overnight successes, you may as well face the overwhelming fact that you will have to WORK at your business.

Actionable work. Work that is going to move your business forward. If you are spending all your time learning, reading, studying, researching, writing, posting on social media but not implementing the things you are learning, you are NOT moving your business forward. While those things are an important part of your business, the true grit is implementation of the things you are learning. For example; let’s say you are an artist and day after day you are filling orders, posting on social media, organizing paperwork etc. but you’re not painting, connecting with your licensees or contacting galleries in order to have your work shown you are not taking action in your business that will move you FORWARD.

On your computer, create a daily list of core activities that will move your business forward and each morning print it out so you can check them off as you get them accomplished. For example:

  • Contact one potential licensee each day
  • Connect with a current licensee each day (this could be a quick phone call or email)
  • Create every day; whether it’s a 20 min sketch or 2-3 hours on a painting.
  • Post on social media 3X a day…you can schedule those in the morning but be sure to check a couple times a day and read/reply to comments.

These are just suggestions if you are a licensed artist so create whatever works for the business you’re in.

Consistent work. Here’s a biggie. Be consistent in those actions (hence the daily check list) AND be consistent in working however many hours a day you can. If you’re just getting starting business and you already have a full time job, you may only be able to work 3 hours a day and that’s ok. By working three hours a day building your dream business you will be doing more than most people. At the end of the week, that’s 15 hours and by the end of the month, that’s 60 hours!!!  You will be surprised how your new biz will grow after a few months…maybe not $ wise but you will be building the foundation.

TIME

What is the only thing we have NO CONTROL over? We can’t stop it, we can’t speed it up or slow it down. It keep marching one at the same pace day in and day out. TIME!!!

Time will pass whether you are working at a job you hate, sitting on the couch watching tv, playing video games, surfing the internet for funny cat videos or WORKING YOUR DREAM BIZ so why not use your time to create the life and future you desire.

With a job, you are trading hours for dollars. You don’t have the freedom to come and go when you please. You only get so much vacation time. Your income has limits. Your potential is limited. Your talent is overlooked. With your own business, you have the freedom to work when it’s convenient for you and your families schedule…don’t get me wrong, you will work harder for your own business than you ever would for anyone else but you can work around important events or appointments. Your talent flourishes and your income potential is limitless.

Also, if you are building a business that is your dream or passion you will love to work. It won’t seem like work because you’re enjoying the process. But the key here is to start a business only if it’s something you truly LOVE or you will be quick to give up.

Design your business to make money while you’re asleep on vacation or out with friends & family. Create automated systems so you don’t have to be present in order for your business to make money. Here are a few ideas:  sell an ebook, create an e-course that’s only offered a couple times a year and have it all automated. Create products that can be downloaded or have a special password site. Join an multi-level marketing company (I have). All of these will earn you passive income. Keep in mind…..all the work is done up front. You may work months and possibly more to build this type of product or business but once you launch it you could possibly reap the benefits of your labor for years with little work to maintain it.

Think about this…..In the video, I mentioned don’t give up on your business because it’s not earning you $100,000 a month after working it for 6 months. Not to say this isn’t possible but it’s not probable. However, if you work at a j.o.b. (journey of the broke) would you EVER have the opportunity to make $100,000 a month? No. At least as an entrepreneur it’s a possibility.

So how do you choose to spend your time?

It’s YOUR choice.
